Our Champion Children

St. Coleman's Champion Children

At St. Coleman, we have the most terrific, most involved, most caring and most incredible children!  In fact, we have Champion Children!  At the Men's Club we thought it would be appropriate to give our Champion Children their own page.  While we can't list every Champion Child on one page, we can try to show some examples of the kind of children who make up our Parish.

mortarboardAshley Anastasi, daughter of member and former president Sal Anastasi, was selected as one of only 15 Broward County high school seniors to win  the Miami Herald Silver Knights award for 2010.  How did she do it?  The Miami Herald says "It was a simple idea, but Ashley turned it into a big solution: Bake cookies, change lives. Moved by a friend's battle with breat cancer, Ashley started holding bake sales in sixth grade to raise money. Over time, she expanded her enterprise into a nonprofit that recruited dozens of volunteers and raised $7,000.  Cookies for Cancer and Ashley's 4,000 hours of service were honored by President George W. Bush and featured on CNN. She was also recognized by Gov. Charlie Crist, and the city of Pompano Beach named a day of appreciation in her honor.  In 25 years of teaching, her English teacher wrote, 'I have never witnessed a student more involved in community service.'" RespectlifeTiffany Topor, one of St. Coleman's outstanding eighth grade students, won the 2010 Archdiocese of Miami Respect Life Ministry's annual essay contest for her submission on the value of human life.  Tiffany's essay, which is both beautifully written and emotionally moving, tells the story of a life that might not have been -- her own.  Click here to read the essay.  Let us all pray that Tiffany's essay might cause someone considering abortion to think again.  Congratulations on an essay well written, and an appeal for life well presented.
