St. Coleman Men's Club is working with Americas Moms for Soldiers in an effort to ensure that none of our servicemen at forward operating bases in Iraq and Afghanistan walk away empty from mail call. Americas Moms works with platoon leaders, chaplains, sergeants and squad leaders to coordinate efforts and provide support to those who do not receive packages or mail from home.
America's Moms tells us the average age of the servicemen supported is less than 22 years old. These servicemen typically do not have access to local exchanges for obtaining basic items such as snacks and personal items. Americas Moms is trying to fill that need, and says that each donation of $20.00 will adopt a serviceman for a month. Americas Moms will send a package with a personal note and a prayer.
The Men's Club effort includes drop boxes for cash donations at various locations in Broward County, as well as actively soliciting donations from area businesses and our own membership. To date the Serviceman's Charity Drive Committee has received over $5,000 in donations (enough for 250 packages!). Every penny we receive goes directly to Americas Moms to further their efforts.
Please contact A.C. Carbone (954 829 1587, accarbone@bellsouth.net) or Bill Berlin (wsattcom1@netzero.net) for more information or to donate. Donations may also be mailed to:
